Contemplating cutting my hair short. Not liking the idea coz long hair is one of the few things that makes me slightly feminine plus...

I've never liked the way I looked with short hair. But when I went to the salon today with a friend, the stylist took one look at me and said that my hair is thinning and long hair only makes things worse. Sob. What to do...?

I'd agree - do what you really want to do - and don't worry what others think

Carol..... I've gone to many "salons" and always get crap about my long hair... how it's not good for hair to be soo long, the thinning factor, the hair only looks worse if long and how much better it would be short. I say they r just jealous. ;) Go with what makes YOU feel good.

Cybette, keep the long hair! So much classier and easier. I just got hair extensions :)

    Cool - how long?

We have a term in the UK - 'Metrosexual' - I have been accused of this sometimes due to my interest in such things...

2 years, 4 months ago by whatleydude

  • pirita

30 cm, see Flickr! My brother is a bit metrosexual. Nothing wrong with that, it is kind of hot!

2 years, 4 months ago by pirita

  • whatleydude

You know the term? Cool... :o)

Yeah - it is kinda hot!

2 years, 4 months ago by whatleydude

  • constantine

Metrosexual is a term about 4 years old now.

Hell in America we even had technosexual for those people who love walking around and exposing their thousands of dollars worth of kit.

2 years, 4 months ago by constantine

  • pirita

Well known concept over here too! Plus I used to live in London. Don't remember where I heard about the concept first

2 years, 4 months ago by pirita

  • whatleydude

Oh yeah - it's not a new thing - but I didn't know if it had got out of Englan... Cool.. :o)

Technosexuals eh? Hahah - I'll have to use that...

2 years, 4 months ago by whatleydude

  • pirita

4 years...how do you know exactly, Stefan? Technosexual only applies to gadgets?

2 years, 4 months ago by pirita

  • constantine

I used to be metro, I also used to be into gangster rap, it's all fads really.

2 years, 4 months ago by constantine

  • whatleydude

I can't remember the name of the guy who coined the phrase - but I'm not sure if it's that old.. It was used as a derogatory term at first.. by a bloke who wanted to stamp out guys who were 'embracing their feminine sides' so to speak...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrosexual

Actually I was wrong, it is 5 years old in the US. I was close, dammit!

2 years, 4 months ago by constantine

  • pirita

You metro? Would have loved to see that. I used to be "a media type", even little hippyish, with dark, graphic glasses and "different" clothes. Glad I am not any more. Now I am just a corporate bimbo or something

I fell in love with sweatpants and hoodies about 2 years ago.

    Now it is a trend.

Sigh, nice to be ahead of the curve. Now all I need are some capris, sandles and black socks and I can become fully European.

Just please don't turn into a Nokia engineer with beige khakis, lacoste shirts and sailing shoes. Rather take up the Nokia Multimedia style, suit and Adidas superstars :)

2 years, 4 months ago by pirita

  • cybette

errm... Nokia engineer here. haha... I like how this conversation has evolved from hair to legal age in Finland back to hair for a brief moment (thanks Pirita) to metrosexuals (the term which from my memory have been around for quite a while...) to fashion styles (and apparently the lack thereof for Nokia engineers?)

2 years, 4 months ago by cybette

  • pirita

Sorry, not PC that comment. I meant a male one. And then again, the style I mentioned is not restricted to Nokians in Finland!

2 years, 4 months ago by pirita

  • whatleydude

    Nokians.... I like that.

2 years, 4 months ago by whatleydude

  • cybette

no worries @pirita, i know i don't have much style to speak of :) jeans and t-shirts mostly ... well the male engineers make up for their lack of fashion sense with their geeky talk and knowledge which can be a turn on (at least for me)

2 years, 4 months ago by cybette

  • TheBlueNile

And Stefan..Europeans don't wear socks with their sandels. Not, if they want to hip anyway. But, mayby you are ahead of some curve again..

2 years, 4 months ago by TheBlueNile

  • zacharye

Woh this conversation has taken quite a turn. Well I love fashion in my region - I've always just worn ratty old jeans and t-shirts and now I'm sheek!
