    Staying :-)!

9 months, 3 weeks ago by map

  • hannamanna

Still staying and just reading news about jaiku going open source. Will be using/checking other service as well just as before. Multiplatform communications you know...

9 months, 3 weeks ago by hannamanna

  • jsaarikko

Right now I feel like staying. There may be some new opportunities here.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by jsaarikko

  • sachaqs

Nothing compares to Jaiku! I'm staying as long as it's up (and isn't too painful to use :P). Even if everyone leave but one of my fav friend-kus. :)

There's still some great potential in the platform, maybe more than ever... Time will tell.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by sachaqs

  • ymb

staying. None of the others compare to Jaiku

I'll probaly still try things that startup, but i keep coming back to Jaiku.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by ymb

  • cybette

I'm staying too. I get a headache just loading the twitter page. Brightkite is much better ... and there's Rejaw or something. But yea, i keep coming back too and i'm glad you guys are sticking around as well :)

  • myrtti

I really don't understand why people are so depressed about Jaiku open sourcing?

9 months, 3 weeks ago by myrtti

  • snuxoll

@myrtti I don't get it either, it's not like Jaiku is shutting down. The community will do a better job maintaining the bloody software than Google has since it bought Jaiku...

9 months, 3 weeks ago by snuxoll

  • myrtti

@snuxoll: and as long as @jyri is still even slightly interested in pushing the community input to Jaiku.com...

9 months, 3 weeks ago by myrtti

  • cybette

i wasn't depressed. the first headline i read was "Google killing Jaiku" (panic!!) followed by "Jaiku will be released as open source" (whew, there's still hope)

  • virbana

    I'm staying too.

  • PolarFox

I'm staying, but I'm just listening .. not writing that much.. I could do commentaries of hockey games I'm photographing .. ;)

  • msjen

@cybette - I am staying. I prefer Jaiku to Twitter now. Open source is not a bad thing. Google App Engine is actually fun to work with, so maybe we should think up new things we want and submit them. ;o)

9 months, 3 weeks ago by msjen

  • PolarFox

isn't G App Engine Python only thingie? :)

9 months, 3 weeks ago by PolarFox

  • msjen

@PolarFox - For now it is, but they will be opening it up to new languages. What is nice about GAE is that the framework is nice and simple, and one can use Django if one wants. The community is quite helpful. I have enjoyed my first 3 weeks of developing in GAE.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by msjen

  • PolarFox

When ruby comes available, I might put some fancy stuff to jaiku, Jaiku will go on!

9 months, 3 weeks ago by PolarFox

  • ymb

Let the masses move to Twitter, the educated few will still be here on Jaiku

the analogy of Windows Vs Apple springs to mind ::evil grin::

9 months, 3 weeks ago by ymb

  • myrtti

@ymb: the masses are on twitter.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by myrtti

  • tulensrma

As I've stated before, I will stay here. I have checked out the other platforms but just don't get the same feeling. The S60 client has a lot to do with it.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by tulensrma

  • cybette

sure hope the S60 client will be open sourced too. and wonder if Jaiku will adopt the federated model like Identi.ca..

9 months, 3 weeks ago by cybette

  • bogart

I'll stay, but i have been trying to use identi.ca more. If that was threaded it would be a viable alternative

9 months, 3 weeks ago by bogart

  • spongefile

Staying on Jaiku, and hoping this open source thing will, among other things, allow for improved mobile apps for the iPhone. As for alternatives, TwitterFon for iPhone has made Twitter palatable--the newest version threads conversations for you! Finding it quite smooth going to be on both platforms thanks to that. Nambu also looks promising: a client for everything at once.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by spongefile

  • TAir

Staying here. Not really convinced about other platforms.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by TAir

  • TheBlueNile

Staying put. There is more than enough traffic here..don't have time react to every interesting jaiku as it is.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by TheBlueNile

  • runningwithbulls

    Well screw you Google.

Yet another reason to hate you.

Using Twitter for proper conversations is like swimming in treacle.

    God damn you Google.

I'm going to have to go back to IRC for any proper conversation channel.

Well, that and stay here, as long as its still alive.

Did I say screw you Google?

9 months, 3 weeks ago by runningwithbulls

  • alexleonard

Was this just announced this morning?

9 months, 3 weeks ago by alexleonard

  • gerrymoth

@cybette I'll still be here, but last one out turn the lights off :D

9 months, 3 weeks ago by gerrymoth

  • alexleonard

Thanks. I'm not entirely sure I fully understand what's going on. But I just woke up from hours of nightmares (which never happens to me) and feel like someone kicked me in the head.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by alexleonard

  • myrtti

I like the blog.jaiku.com entry more. It has more hope in it.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by myrtti

  • jlxdgz

Opensource could be a great oportunity to Jaiku. I'm a linux user and OS has a lot of benefits. We won't lost current functionality and from that community could add a lot of new things. We'll see.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by jlxdgz

  • runningwithbulls

I know its going to mean nothing to Google, but I suggest all Jaiku users leave a comment in the post and tell them they are fools, like @gerrymoth has done.

At least we will have the last word (and it won't be nice).

9 months, 3 weeks ago by runningwithbulls

  • alexleonard

I'm confused. The google blog post makes it sound like it will be open source but only able to run on Google's app engine. Um. Maybe i need coffee

9 months, 3 weeks ago by alexleonard

  • alexleonard

    @runningwithbulls I did like gerry's comment there :)

9 months, 3 weeks ago by alexleonard

  • alexleonard

If I can continue to use Jaiku and continue to converse with all the good people I've met on here, and if it starts to actually develop again then I'm perfectly happy to see it not be owned by google anymore. I'm worried about too much dependence on Google things... ;)

9 months, 3 weeks ago by alexleonard

  • fabsh

I am pretty much fulltime on Laconica anyway. Find me at http://linuxoutlaws.net/fabsh

9 months, 3 weeks ago by fabsh

  • alexleonard

I'm not sure I've comprehended the distributed thing yet.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by alexleonard

  • fabsh

You don't have to. If you do not want to bother, theres http://identi.ca - my updates go there too.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by fabsh

  • macoute

@alexleonard it should be possible anyway to port it to be able to run anywhere if the code is completely free.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by macoute

  • runningwithbulls

sorry, but the jaiku blogpost is bollocks.

Jyri copies and pastes the 2 paragraphs into it. He gives no information from his point of view.

I know he is going to be told to be quiet, but still.

Man, you really have to hate this kind of thing....sheesh

9 months, 3 weeks ago by runningwithbulls

  • schmmuck

this is a sad sad day for all webkind ..!!

9 months, 3 weeks ago by schmmuck

  • Mobilesociety

Staying, too. Let's see if open source = Jaiku lives on in this or a different shape or form.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by Mobilesociety

  • cybette

there are services like ping.fm and hellotxt to post to several networks, but that's not what i need. i am more interested in the responses and discussions. are there services that aggregates @ replies from various networks?

9 months, 3 weeks ago by cybette

  • BUGabundo

@cybette: that should be the client doing. and #Gwibber seems to be the best option so far!

9 months, 3 weeks ago by BUGabundo

  • cybette

@bugabundo you're right. checking out gwibber

9 months, 3 weeks ago by cybette

  • afr

afaik friendfeed is probably the closest we have to jaiku at the moment. threaded conversations, pulling-in of external feeds, etc etc. not sure tho if one of the main features of jaiku, the visibility of replies of friends to threads you don't follow yourself is also available. need to check that out..

9 months, 3 weeks ago by afr

  • dsample

Definitely staying, nothing's changing, the servers are still going to be here, service the same as now, no change as far as I can see, apart from more features will come from it being open sourced, so all good news :o)

9 months, 3 weeks ago by dsample

  • BUGabundo

@cybette: by the way, I'm staying!

9 months, 3 weeks ago by BUGabundo

  • mobiledan

I'm here... I cross post, but only check mobile apps for jaiku and facebook (i know it's not really an app but a shortcut...)

9 months, 3 weeks ago by mobiledan

  • angelmartinez

I'm staying but I'm also on Twitter and Brightkite. Oh @cybette: Tweetdeck makes Twitter much more enjoyable!

9 months, 3 weeks ago by angelmartinez

  • hannamanna

I spent little time on updating my Twitter account today but it hasn't impressed me yet. Jaiku has been my favourite since day one but in addition to Twitter, I've been trying out Brightkite and Rejaw....

9 months, 3 weeks ago by hannamanna

  • BUGabundo

i use Jaiku and Identica (and Gwibber helps me keep track of replies to identica).

i also cross post via ping.fm and gwibber to twitter, plurk, and few others

9 months, 3 weeks ago by BUGabundo

  • BUGabundo

oh and I some how forget the good old IRC! i'm on freenode and PTNet

9 months, 3 weeks ago by BUGabundo

  • hypocrisy

I don't understand why changing the software licensing model has to cause a mass-exodus of users from Jaiku.com.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by hypocrisy

  • BUGabundo

@hypocrisy: its not the License! this the (false) idea that google is dumping it!

9 months, 3 weeks ago by BUGabundo

  • BUGabundo

@hypocrisy: ok that didn't came out good: google is not suporting Jaiku anymore, so people are afraid it will be closed! but it can be kept up by 3rd parties now, or with new (maybe) federated sites

9 months, 3 weeks ago by BUGabundo

  • hypocrisy

But like... Having the Jaiku service online is peanuts compared everything else that Google runs... "I don't get it"... Then again, mysterious are the ways of da g33kz :( :)

9 months, 3 weeks ago by hypocrisy

  • mobiledan

Mobiledan or dandandan... But i'm in for the long haul... If it goes open, and stays on the google servers, is this such a bad thing? Let's all roll our sleeves up!

9 months, 3 weeks ago by mobiledan

  • afr

actually, if those changes finally result in removing the the invite-only wall from jaiku.com, it certainly also can be seen as a step into the right direction, and a new chance to take on twitter, hehe..;)

9 months, 3 weeks ago by afr

  • dabitch

Staying. Releasing the code and letting google-peep play with jaiku on their spare time isn't going to make much difference really, now is it?

9 months, 3 weeks ago by dabitch

  • chibbigirl

@cybette i would never leave you! :) us Leos stick together!

9 months, 3 weeks ago by chibbigirl

  • chelx

Going???? Nahhh it never occur in my lexicon :) Ms Sunshine still has duty to do in here :)

9 months, 3 weeks ago by chelx

  • edythemighty

As soon as it open-sourced, I will definitely be leaving for greener-ku pastures. It is my understanding that it will become federated much the same way laconi.ca installs are, so I'm just heading out to whoever provides a newer and revitalized version of Jaiku, and if I have to do part of it myself....so be it! I already reserved a perfect name for a microblogging platform several months ago anyway. Jaiku being open-sourced just means I have saved myself the trouble of building it myself. ;) Well, that's my 2 & 1/3 cents (amount corrected to account for economic times)

9 months, 3 weeks ago by edythemighty

  • rcadden

@edythemighty - on that note, I accidentally discovered last night that no one is doing anything with the URL 'titter.com'.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by rcadden

  • rcadden

@Cybette - I'm pretty much everywhere, lol. If you can't find me in a given social network, you have issues.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by rcadden

  • edythemighty

That would be the perfect domain for some of the guys and gals here.... ;) Mine is....I dunno if I should say....yambler! ha! :P I am a yambler! wowowowow

9 months, 3 weeks ago by edythemighty

  • Texrat

Yes, I googled Ricky and he even showed up in antisocial networks

9 months, 3 weeks ago by Texrat

  • alexleonard

antisocial networks? myspaz? or is that an antisanity network..

9 months, 3 weeks ago by alexleonard

  • palmsolo

Nokia please pick up Jaiku and add it to your Ovi services, http://blogs.zdnet.com/cell-phones/?p=451

9 months, 3 weeks ago by palmsolo

  • spongefile

Brightkite has always seemed a bit needlessly complex, though.

9 months, 3 weeks ago by spongefile

  • cybette

    nobody mentioned friendview? xD
