@Cityrat59: hehe, i
welcome anyone who want to step up to the challenge ;) @map, @zacharye: this is
the phone to have now, in my not so humble
opinion!!
need a bit more time and use before i can comment on the battery
consumption. but considering that it uses the same battery as the
E90 (BP-4L, 1500 mAh), i think battery life won't be too bad.
Uploading a couple of pics and vids to Ovi right now (my public
channel), horrible blue tint in images, wasn't quite that bad in
previous firmware, hope they fix it before shipping. Video is Qvga
rather than vga...
Hmm maybe some drunku vids now? Anyway battery just died with
half a day of intensive use (plus lots of handovers traveling from
tampere to helsinki, should have forced gsm mode on train). Luckily
got spare one in the E90 :P
If I get the E71, I would be hardpressed to decide in a
situation like yours whether to cannibalize the battery from my
N810. Anyhow, good to have the option, tho. :P
Yeap, good to have an option. Can't believe i'm now using the
E90 as "backup" lol... And I love how responsive the E71 is, esp
scrolling. Quite surprised it's FP1 not FP2.
back home, E71 charging next to me in bed, just watched the
smartphones show (soon to be "the phones show") and probably should
get some sleep. wondering which version firmware steve had... the
blue tint is driving me nuts
Me to. I wanted an e61i but they weren't available when I
changed my phone last. Curiously it looks like the e71 won't be in
NZ for a fair while yet if at all either and nor will the N810 make
it here. Bummer
I use two devices now - E61i for email (work and some personal)
and calendar and the N95 or whatever NSeries I happen to be
carrying that day for calls, DUN and everything else.
Given that data and calls are still way too expensive in nz i'd
be inclined to only use one at a time. That said an n810 might
bridge that qwerty gap for me. Have to wait and see what the import
prices are like on release
@barneyc: that's really
lame on the tablet front ... The combo is really strong for me and
it uses a single data connection (on cellular) which is nice. My
E61i is running from my work issued BB SIM. Otherwise, I'd be a
single SIM guy too ...
I used to try to go back and forth with the E61i and N95-x but I
kept sticking with the N95 during the week. I honestly really like
having a decent camera with me all the time. My daughter seems to
do cute things during the week, we don't limit her to the
weekends.
I need to divide myself a bit technically because work is not
for myself ... my choce would be for a single device (phone) though
I don't think I can give up the tablet nor do I want to
Not sure when the last time you tried it was but I'm loving the
latest build. I had a lot of problems with older versions - only
one major one with this version (the one pop account I have in it
doesn't work reliably).
@atmasphere like you I
am a tetherer, I have to as it is horribly expensive any other way.
N800 to N95-8Gb and off out into the world.
I guess what I (well we all) would really like is an N95-8Gb /
N82 with qwerty.
The e71 will do pretty well everything I want except for (and
it's a fairly biggie for me now) the camera. I've gotten so used to
the decent snapper in my phone that I hardly ever even take out the
Canon dSLR anymore.
Oh I don't know, I just really like the idea of having a "real"
keyboard again.
I could be devil's advocate here and say don't get the E71 in
hopes for an upgrade to it which will happen 99%, but I'm gonna get
one cause I can't wait that long.
speaking of weekday/weekend usage, i wonder how many people will
find the "switch mode" feature useful? the E71 camera is quite
lacking (even if the colour problem is fixed) so i will probably
carry another phone or camera... (i usually have 2-3 devices in my
bag anyway). "Multi SIM" service (where you can get additional SIMs
on the same mobile account and plan) will be useful in this case,
at least Saunalahti in Finland provides that.
for me, qwerty wins over camera. i text/email/jaiku/look up
finnish words during the course of a day much much more than i take
a picture. @monadi there will
always be upgrades and devices with more/better features down the
road, that's why i say it is the phone to have
now :)
@ymb probably, since they
even list the secondary camera as having VGA capabilities...
@barneyc: With you on
that one (QWERTY N95/N82), and talking about this for Nokia folks
anytime I can. @cybette: I
have Sonera Multi-SIM, you can just order it at NOK (has to be
agreed with manager). @map: Some
patience, it's ready, done and shipping, so just a matter of
logistics.
@jukkaeklund: I know
:-). I just kill my self with this 6260! Trying to find a place to
get it before weekend... any ideas? Do I have to give up for that
stupid G?
i have a feeling my camera issues are more to do with hardware
than firmware. my proto is actually from an early batch... and i've
had this "problem" with previous phones as well (6680, N73, N95
just to name a few). that's one downside of getting protos as
opposed to production units - there are some things that just can't
be fixed with a firmware update. oh well, bad for me, but good for
the rest of you!
@warza: video around
384kbps, audio at 48kbps, and i need to reinstall the tool that can
analyse individual frames so i can get the keyframe rate - maybe
later :)
@jukkaeklund it's so
people know that the image samples from my proto unit is not
necessarily what to expect from production units. it is a known
fact that protos may not be up to the same standards as final sales
devices...
@jukkaeklund:
Self-censorship is not a nice practise post announcement, esp when
the launch is so near. Anyhow Nokia firmware seems to almost always
be beta when the first batch of a model ships. And wrt hw issues,
maybe Carol should've made the prototype disclaimer early on so
that people don't take her comments as some kind of a review.
that's why i don't do phone reviews, i'm biased and the stuff i
get are almost never ready. i can only offer some usage experiences
and my totally biased opinions... yes, my mistake for not making
the disclaimer earlier. it was just hard to contain my excitement
about this device and i guess it slipped my mind :P
@palmsolo I disagree.
I'd have to chime in with something like the N82, with US 3G and a
slideout QWERTY keyboard. My experience with SureType was
horrid.
I hear the ctrl key is behind the Fn key. Not exactly a
showstopper but rather annoying for a heavy screen or emacs user.
=( (Glad I'm not one of the latter.)
Yes, ctrl is behind fn, so it's one extra key press (good thing
is you don't have to hold them all down simultaneously, just
sequentially). For copy/paste they can actually be achieved via
shift + softkeys, instead of ctrl c/v
I really like how I can just start typing a contact's name from
the standby screen to call/text that person instead of going into
contacts/logs/messaging app to do it
The ctrl key placement sounds a bit "interesting". @cybette: Can you do copy and paste
operations with traditional modifier semantics, ie depressing both
Ctrl or Shift with the accompanying key at the same time, or do I
need to serialize?

@cybette, how does it shape up for power-hungry things like Nseries games and video stuff like Qik?

how is the video-recording performance, compared to the N95? VGA has only 15fps, right? can you do a sample for us? ;)

@afr yes I believe it's 15fps, I'll work on a sample :)
