probably there will be opening bars and restaurants, but hardly anything else. @cybette how about an outdoor BBQ (by the lake)? Though it doesn't sound like a date..
I have spent Juhannus twice in Helsinki. ´93 we checked almost every single bar and terrace what was open. ´95 there was a rock party (live music etc) in Mustikkamaa.
@map I do remember midsummer in Mustikkamaa. Lot's of teenagers getting drunk. Other than that Helsinki pretty much has been dead during Juhannus. Don't know when the camels back breaks and the amount of foreigners in here develops to a city-midsummer culture. Check out Seurasaari Juhannusvalkeat

regarding what is open in Helsinki on Saturday - pretty much nothing (as i found out my first year here!).
One MacDonalds on Manheimmintie, Zetor, and possibly couple of other "restaurants".
I think there was possibly 100 people (mostly foreigners i think) walking round downtown Hesinki. It was like being in a Zombie movie, VERY surreal
