what? zurich? so you will get into the middle of the euro2008 soccer championship craze..:g: good timing for having fun and see a lot of soccer-fans, but ultra-bad timing to get accommodation..
ok, i just added you in skype for the numbers exchange. don't like to put my email into a public (and google indexed) thread, if you know what i mean.. ;)
no need to run and hide, as i actually wanted to write "personally, i like google maps better when visiting foreign cities.." in the previous post
Horrendously long queue at the check in counter, so i used the self check in kiosk instead. Easy breezy. Security was painless as well this time. Now 2 hours before departure...some breakfast and then shopping?
hey, welcome to the "little big city"! ;) hope the sky clears up today - as zurich is much nicer when the sun comes out.. but wait - which city isn't?!
yep - you could leave sports tracker in "live" mode - so the whole jaiku community could watch as you roam and explore zurich, and give you directions like "in 100 meters, turn right!" ;))
ah, btw, in case you don't know already: all starbucks here have free wifi (just ask for some free coupons at the counter when purchasing your coffee).
@Mobilesociety: never tried, but i guess so (except there is a commercial agreement with some other provider for the whole airport, which i'm not aware of). just ask at the counter next time..
got to my friend's place quick and easy without getting lost. Google maps ftw! :P she just had a baby and isn't too mobile. Now exploring city sights (and shopping.....a bit) and meeting @afr soon!
yep, good timing! today you just catched one of the few sunny days until now in this rainy june. and tomorrow, the sun will be gone again according to the reports.. :(
lol there's a tram stop just called Siemens. @bigeclipse yeah, having so much fun on an unplanned trip, this might be the way to travel man... Although this trip might be hard to top. Also it's easier travelling by myself..
@constantine it went by quite fast but i managed a pic of the stop sign. Quite a few siemens buildings around that area (duh). Now waiting outside my friend's place. Both of my friends are running late :(
hope i'm on the right train. Flughafen = airport, right? Lol... Friend from singapore (who was visiting her sis in Basel) finally arrived just as i was about to leave ... So we finally met after 16.5 years :P
self service check in ftw! Things in zürich are very efficient as well, much like in finland. Part of me actually feel at home here....weird. Anyway i have almost 60 swiss francs left in cash, so gotta come back soon, right?
in helsinki. Slept wrong on the plane and my neck is all messed up. Some fool inverted my box of lovely Luxemburgerli in the overhead bin, i hope those little darlings are ok. Bus in 35 min, and then a 2 hr ride back to tampere... Then taksi to home. Should be home by 3am. Tomorrow's gonna be a loooong day.... (esp the work part. Bon jovi part should be fun!)
@afr my friend alicia who demanded a box from her husband right after she gave birth (he bought her two :)) and i heard you can't get it anywhere else except zürich, not even other parts of switzerland?!
mainly zürich, yes. luxemburgerli are an exclusivity of confiserie sprüngli in zürich. according to the german wikipedia they also have some international shops in larger cities which apparently get their fresh luxemburgerly delivered daily by airfreight in a cooler directly from zurich! :g:
A usb-based external gps receiver could be nice if you don't want the hassle of charging yet another device but otherwise bluetooth is the mainstay really. I have a Taiwanese-made bt gps receiver that I have used with SportsTracker and other GPS aware apps on my E61. Now I gave it to my dad for loaner cos I don't use it that much and he wants to keep score of how much he exercises by walking. I think my next Nokia (prolly the E71) will include a receiver, tho I may need an external one if I want to try really gps apps on my N810, cos that one is known to be really slow in attaining a satellite fix with its internal receiver.
finally got around to uploading the zurich pics and vids (still in progress...). just realized that i'm not in any of the pics! downside of travelling by myself i suppose...
hehe, no comment.. ;-p but nice pictures anyway! i'm a bit surprised about the very inconsistent exposure of your lumix pics.. did you do a lot of manual exposure correction, or was the sensor drunk too?
yeah, i think i spilled beer on it, remember? ;) but i do have a bad habit of adjusting the exposure for certain shots, only to forget to readjust it back for taking subsequent pics. plus my FZ20 has suffered at least 2 falls on concrete ground. noise level has gone way up since then....
