plan of attack, get my self a date. oh wait, not one, but TWO today, lunch and dinner. interesting thing is both of them are Brits. hey, where are all the cute Finns hiding? c'mon, don't be shy!
oh yeah, those words. well, I was going for "operation loverboy" but didn't know what loverboy is in finnish. rakastajapoika? (but not poikarakastaja because i think that means pedophile :P). so anyways, reporting back. a really cute finn asked me for lunch at the last minute and i couldn't say no, so i postponed lunch with brit guy 1 to tomorrow. too bad he's already taken though, sigh.
@cybette Rakastaja is a good choise if you want to have a lover. Rakastajapoika doesn't sound so good. But if you're looking for something more casual(?) a "heila" could be good term. Heila is something like a date, but taken slightly more light minded, (heilastelu/dating, heilastella/to date). I think that's a good word, it has a positive and fun connotation.
@kapu lol, mutta... sinulla on jo tyttöystävä? ;) @virbana kiitos! joo, "heila" on parempi valinta. Mutta en tiedä "heila"-sana aikaisemmin (before this?)
@cybette: Just "thinging game" of possibilities if I shoudnt have gf ;) ... Olet mielestäni oppinut todella nopeasti kirjoittamaan suomea. Juurihan sinä aloitit opinnot. Miten puhuttu suomenkieli sujuu ?
Kiitos kehuista! Joo, minä aloitin opinnot viime vuonna, kuusi kuukautta Dallasissa, ja neljä kuukautta Suomessa tänä vuonna. Mun suomen puhekieli on huono :P
@dst: paljon kiitoksia, you flatter me :) i am just fascinated by the language. people often ask me why i bother learning finnish since i don't really need it to survive here, but it's not about whether it's practical or useful... for e.g. i pursue music not because i will get some "practical use" out of it in terms of for example helping my career, but just simply because i like it.
thanks @krazykritter :) back to the operation status, dinner with Brit guy 2 was nice, great catching up with him (he doesn't live here actually). Boy can he talk, and fast, and a lot, and he said he was tired. It's ok to have moments of silence you know. Maybe that's one reason i'm drawn to the finns, i am very comfortable with silence.
@overpills i think we'll get along just fine :) with a few drinks and the unspoken understanding about the need for shoes... (pretty much the only saving grace of my geekness that reminds me i'm still a girl sometimes). @bogart it's only day one! and it's a work day. cut me some slack, will ya? :P
@cybette: I think I might have told this one before, but this one English guy came over for five months and all he could say in Finnish by the time he was leaving was "R-kioski, nopeaa ja mukavaa on asiointi". Also my Swedish PhD mate pretty much just gave up on Finnish.
Ok, Carol, now I'm really proud of you! Nopeaa toimintaa tämä sinun kielenopiskelusi. Ja aloitit vielä pikadeittailun. My, my, what have we here, an industrious young lady! Indeed, my friend, I hope all the bricks will fall in place in your life.
discussing language and dating don't conflict. Language was one of the most frequent topic my $ex discussed with me when we were dating. Maybe we both were screwed.:P
most of my ex-es only spoke english (or some english and chinese) and were not interested in linguistics. there was one who also knew tagalog but grew up in the US so spoke mainly english anyway. i just think it'll be interesting to date someone whose first language is not english or chinese :)
@matiasm why? are the swedish-speaking finns cuter? ;) @bugabundo well i may not necessarily know more but i can be just as enthusiastic about technology as a "geekguy". it's more about the passion than the knowledge!
who what me huh? 0:-) hmm, operaatio fellaatio has a nice ring to it ;) but, mission on standby tonight. need to go home and help my dad review a presentation and speech that he's going to give tomorrow.
@cybette: Erm, the Chinese studies were put on hold about 6 months ago, remember? I was having issues with my focus and memory (getting thickheaded by the age :P and don't remember the words) and the non-committing (lax) way the class was taught.
Well, Carol, presently I'm focusing on finding my identity by getting new experiences (expanding my horizons) and developing a sense of "pop" fashion of my own. @whiteg is onto something when she referred me to the (shaky) concept of male lesbianism. ;)
Jarkko, good luck with your endeavor and look forward to seeing the fruits of your labour :) as for love, that's true, but i've crashed and burned too many times, so we'll see...
You go girl! Before I decided to commit, I did that too ;) All though, I do have to admit I would think to myself, "What the heck am I doing?" if I liked the guy on the second date way more than the first. The guilt effect did come into play a little, so I'm just warning you ;)
It started as a group date: me, Miss washing machine and Mr laundry. Mr laundry showed up all dirty and stuff, and threw himself all over me. I was a bit disgusted, so I threw him to Miss washing machine, and she showed him a good time spinning and vibrating. It might have been fun for them, but I got bored after a while and left to get some food. When I came back, they were both very quiet, probably exhausted. Ms washing machine had already fallen asleep, while Mr laundry was limp and damp from their previous activities, although he seemed to want more. So I took him to the drying room, just the two of us this time, and there was much heat in that room, and he started getting excited again, flapping around. But I decided to leave him hanging ;)
@kevanv dishes? mmm... warm water, soap bubbles, rubbing against each other... you bet! @chelx yeah i like to make people see things from different perspectives ;) @hirvinen and i do that about once a week! lol...

Wait the summer come, they'll appear to streets.
My tactic have been to catch them from hobby groups (like from school :-D)... And friends of friends are always a good chance.

@cybette Wow, puhut (kirjoitat) jo tosi hyvin suomea! Arvasin, että et ole kuullut heila-sanaa aikaisemmin. Kiva, että tykkäsit. :)

no pent up pressures. just having some fun. although maybe i'm masochistic by opening myself to the risk of a heartbreak.
