@texrat: The mere rush of sub-freezing air against my face can make me gasp when I'm cycling. Makes it hard to concentrate on the traffic. Yes, I'm a Finn but my reflexes are overly sensitive that way.
Snowblindness in blizzard. :D That was good. But yes, you are right in that that it is almost impossible to see when driving or walking in one. And you get the same feeling when driving in thick fog. Feeling that you've entered in some portal that'll take you into some magical alternative reality. ;)
haven't experienced a blizzard yet (growing up in singapore and living in dallas didn't give me much snow experience to begin with). maybe my first will be this winter??
Disagree, but only during Christmas and New Year's. I like having snow for the holidays, and a few days more. But for the rest of the winter, I'd rather have the global warming kick in and melt it all. :)
well, the finns are generally pretty good at keeping things working and moving even with heavy snow, but last year there was this crazy blizzard at the end of october when about 1m of snow fell in 24hours. there were drifts everywhere and the snowploughs etc just couldn't cope. the craziest bit was that the blizzard arrived on the name-day of pyry, which means blizzard!
Every winter the tabloids are filled with topics like "Talvi yllätti autoilijat" that is "Winter surprised the drivers". So maybe we are not that used to these yearly winters, well the drivers anyway. ;D
I'm not sure whether you can experience that in Tampere. At least not every year. Even here in Oulu we've had wet Christmases. The climate change is affecting us too.. Rent a cottage from the Lapland ;o
@triks: i think i'll be here for a while so if not this year then maybe next, and renting a cottage in Lapland might be fun too! i want to visit the Snow Castle of Kemi

I never understood snowblindness until driving in that. You lose all sense of time, space, everything. It's so...surreal.

You should never actually hope for snow. It's cool if you can drive to it within a few hours, but it's no good outside your front door. Trust me.
